Felixstowe Lions Club is glad to have recently been able to help support the current crisis appeal in the Ukraine. We are sure we will be on hand with further help as needed.
At a recent meeting we were given a presentation by Kim Balshaw from U2F (Ukraine to Felixstowe). This is a charity group set up to help displaced Ukrainians by offering them accommodation with families in Felixstowe. Kim outlined the hardships experienced by the families and the difficulties they face in their long journeys to safety. He explained that several families are being hosted by Felixstowe residents. This is of course only a short term measurement and more medium and long term arrangements are needed.
Lions are pleased that we will be responsible for the afternoon tea party to be held on Sunday 5th June in Hamilton Road to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There will be entertainments and children’s games. Look out for further details in local press and on our Facebook page.
The Easter Egg Hunt in April on the seafront gardens went really well and just under £1200 was raised. Next year we hope to expand the hunt so even more children, and families, can enjoy the event.
The first of this year’s Antiques and Collectibles sales was held last weekend on the Triangle. Despite a very wet and miserable morning, over £570 was raised and we thank all those who came along to support us. Hopefully the next sales will be held in better weather!
The Lions have been really pleased to receive a cheque for £100 towards the Ukraine appeal from the owners of Bounty Fish and Chips, a very welcome donation. The photo shows President Richard Woolnough being presented with a cheque for £500 from local sea shanty group the Felix Stowaways, following a collection they held after a recent concert.
